Director of Accounting / CAO (Northern Virginia)

Base to $300,000 plus bonus and equity

 

We are partnering with a $250mm revenue PE-backed national security and government services platform headquartered in Northern Virginia. Following a recent investment by a top-tier private equity sponsor, the company is entering its next phase of growth and is building out its finance leadership team to support scaling operations, M&A activity, investor reporting, and long-term transaction readiness. They are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting / CAO to support the CFO overseeing the entire accounting function.

 

Key Responsibilities

· Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.

· Partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership team on strategic finance initiatives.

· Support the reporting and information requirements of private equity investors, lenders, and the Board.

· Oversee all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.

· Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.

· Review financial results, reporting packages, and management information provided to executive stakeholders.

· Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks, accounting policies, and financial procedures.

· Ensure compliance within a government contracting environment, including associated regulatory and contractual requirements.

· Manage external audit relationships and support all audit, tax, and compliance activities.

· Promote strong financial governance and risk management practices across the organisation.

· Deliver high-quality financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.

· Help develop scalable reporting structures and KPIs appropriate for a rapidly growing platform business.

· Support acquisition activity, due diligence, integrations, financing processes, and strategic initiatives.

· Lead finance workstreams associated with transaction readiness and future liquidity events.

· Build systems, processes, and controls capable of supporting a significantly larger organisation.

 

To be considered for this leadership role with a PE backed government contractor you should possess a BS degree, CPA with a minimum 15 years accounting leadership experience, proven government contracting experience, experience within a private equity-backed and/or high-growth organisation, track record of developing teams and improving financial processes, exposure to M&A, transaction readiness, or integration activity, able to obtain a Top Secret (TS) clearance.
